The coolant system is one of the most vital systems that help to prolong the life of the engine. Having a good working coolant system that flows smoothly and is free of rust and debris as well as leaks is the first step to ensuring the protection of your engine, because any obstruction or problem will cause the engine temperature to increase. Lets face it; even the smallest leaks could cause a temperature change with the engine to occur, putting your vehicles cylinder head and engine block at risk.

Although, quite a few newer vehicles come equipped with a warning light on the dash that is triggered when the coolant gets below a certain level in the radiator, most vehicles fail to warn the driver if the coolant level drops making it easier for a problem to go undetected. Besides possible leaks, having the proper 50/50 mixture of coolant to water is another important factor. If there is too much water in the coolant system, then there is a higher potential for rust and corrosion to build up throughout the entire coolant system. This debris can and will clog up coolant passages in the engine, radiator, and heater core areas. That's why having your coolant system checked out on a regular basis will save you money in the long run.
